Description

On this program, you'll sleep in only two islands: Sao Miguel and Faial with two ferry trips to Pico ( 30 minutes duration each way). Explore the ancient world of volcanoes on foot. Track the origins of São Miguel, Pico and Faial Islands and experience some of the thermal springs and nature at its finest.

NOTE: Minimum number of persons required to book this program is 2. Prices may need to be adjusted for solo travelers according to the activities availabilties.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Sao Miguel Island

Arrival and transfer to the hotel for 4 nights. Free rest of the day.

Day 2 - Hiking Faial da Terra and Van tour to Nordeste (FD). Extension: 10.4km/6.46 miles | Level: Easy | Duration 7 hours.

Pick up at the hotel. On this day, there's a hike and a van tour to relax and enjoy the beautiful landscape of this side of the island. Starting with a hike thru a hidden settlement in the mountain and the waterfall Salto do prego. A view over the old whalers harbor and the colorful small boats and end at Ponta do Sossego. Meal included. Return to the hotel.

Day 3 - Hiking Tour Serra Devassa & Nascentes do canario (FD) Extension: 10.4 Km/6.46 miles |Level: Easy |Duration: 7hours.

Pick up at the hotel.This is a beautiful hike to the volcanic complex of Sete Cidades will take you thru a path of serenity and beauty of the lakes, aqueducts and waterfalls. Meal included. Return to the hotel.

Day 4 - Hiking Lagoa do Fogo (FD) Extension: 11 Km/6.84 miles |Level: Medium |Duration: 7 hours

Pick up at the hotel. A lake born from fire with astonishing sights of an untouchable nature. The endemic vegetation and the apparentely unused trails that will take you thru old plant's ruins, convents, natutal swimiming pools and the charming beaches. Meal included. Return to the hotel.

Day 5 – Flight Sao Miguel to Faial Island

Chcek out from the Hotel in Sao Miguel and transfer to the Airport. Flight to Faial, arrival and transfer to the Hotel for 4 nights. Free rest of the day.

Day 6 - Hiking Unesco Heritage Santana to Lajido (HD) Extension: 8.5 Km/5.28miles | Duration: 3.5 Hours | Level: Easy.

Pick up at the hotel and transfer to Horta Harbor. 30 minutes ferry trip to Pico, a guide will be waiting for at Madalena do Pico Harbor to start your Hike tour. This half day hike is an open museum perfect for everyone, specially wine lovers. Beautiful Cellars built with black lava rocks, a well preserved ox carts wheels marked on the black lava reminding the formation of that site. Close the ocean, the wine is cultivated in "currais"on a rocky soil to maintain the heat for sweet grapes. The tour will end at Madalena do Pico Harbor and ferry trip back to Faial (30 minutes). Arriving to Horta Harbor, a guide will be waiting to transfer you back to the Hotel. Free rest of the afternoon in Faial. Note: In case you wish to spend a few free hours on your own in Pico after the tour, please let us know so we can book a later ferry from Pico to Faial, transfer back to the Hotel will still be provided.

Day 7 - Hiking in Caminho dos Burros (FD) Extension: 11.2 Km | Duration: 4.5 Hours | Level: Medium.

Pick up at the hotel and transfer to Horta Harbor. 30 minutes ferry trip to Pico, a guide will be waiting for at Madalena do Pico Harbor to start your Hike tour. This trail starts in Pico’s “Planalto Central” area (Pico’s Central Plateau) and goes slightly downhill as we go from the south to the north of the island. The endemic vegetation is present throughout most of the walk featuring impressively sized specimens. Reaching Prainha’s Forest Park we will have a break for our picnic lunch and also some free time to visit the park. Continuing the hike, we go down a bit more until we reach “Baía das Canas” in the coast where the trail ends. Possibility of swimming in a natural bay deoendine on weather/Ocean conditions. Meal included The tour will end at Madalena do Pico Harbor and ferry trip back to Faial (30 minutes). Arriving to Horta Harbor, a guide will be waiting to transfer you back to the Hotel.

Day 8 - Hiking Faial Crater (HD) Extension: 6.8 Km/3.7miles | Duration: 4.5 Hours | Level: Medium.

Pick up at the hotel for this round trail that is part of the Natural Reserve of Faial, with 2Km/ 1.24miles diameter, had its origin with several eruptions with periods of dormancy during 400 thousand years. The trail is 840-1040 meters high (2755ft to3412ft). By the beginning of the trail, there's a small tunnel to cross and the crater will be welcoming on the other side. Return to the hotel and free afternoon.

Day 9- Departure

Chcek out and transfer from the hotel to the airport.

Recommendations

Bring comfortable light clothes, sweater, raincoat, walking boots or shoes, swimming suit and towel, hat, sunblock, backpack and bottle of water to refill.

The weather or sea conditions may restrict the activities therefore the order of the itinerary may be switched so that guests can take the most enjoyment of their trip.

Booking your vacation

While prices are shown in $U.S dollars, we can also charge in Euros at the prevailing currency conversion daily rate
Early booking is advised. Availability of accommodations and inter-island flight is limited especially in summer months
If hotels named in itinerary are not available at time of booking, alternate similar same rating properties will be confirmed, and subject to new quote.
Order of islands visited may need to be altered due to flight schedule changes
Unless otherwise indicated, sightseeing tours are by private car with English speaking driver. Other languages are available upon request
Quotations with different hotels have a non refundable deposit of $50. Deposit will be credited towards final booking price

A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $350 per person per vacation is required to book and hold both land and air for you.
Final payment is due 50 days before departure

Cancellation Policy - Land Portion

$350 per person if canceled up to 50 days prior departure.
25% of total reservation if cancelled 49-39 days prior departure plus any other additional fee.
50% of total reservation if canceled 38-31 days prior departure plus any other additional fee.
No refunds if canceled less than 30 days prior departure.

Airfare cancellation terms and conditions will be provided to you before ticket is booked

Refund Fees

A 3.9% credit card assessed fee will be subtracted from any refunded payment, including deposits refunded due to services requested not available for date of booking.

Horta - Hotel Horta

Located in the old Azorean town of Horta, the newly-renovated Hotel Horta offers views of Pico Island. It features rooms with balconies, a large garden and an outdoor pool.

Horta’s rooms are decorated in neutral colors, and have wooden furniture. Each of the air-conditioned rooms has a cable TV and a private bathroom with a hairdryer.

The hotel’s panoramic restaurant offers international and regional dishes. The bar and the lounge offer views of the outdoor pool, the pool bar and the garden.

Guests can rent a bicycle to explore the surrounding area. Horta is famous for the whale watching and the volcanoes of Capelinhos and Caldeira.

Horta Airport is 4.3 mi away, and the hotel provides free private parking on site.

Ponta Delgada - Hotel Ponta Delgada

Hotel Ponta Delgada is centrally located and only a 10-minute drive from the airport. Hotel Ponta Delgada features a family ambiance and comfortable furnishings. It features an indoor pool.

Air-conditioned rooms all open out on to a private balcony and are fitted with double-glass windows. All rooms include a TV set with cable channels and private bathrooms with walk-in shower or bathtub. Free WiFi access is available in all areas of the hotel.

The Ponta Delgada’s Baco Restaurant offers authentic cuisine from the Azores. The hotel’s bar has an esplanade, where guests can enjoy a refreshing drink or cocktail.

Horta - Hotel do Canal

The 4-star Hotel do Canal is situated in Horta on Faial Island. It is just 100 meters from the beach and offers panoramic views of Pico Mountain and the bay.
