Festivities on Corvo Island: a celebration of tradition and community

Corvo Island, despite its small size, is rich in cultural and religious traditions. The island’s festivals reflect its deep connection to Azorean heritage and offer visitors a chance to experience its unique community spirit. Here are the key events celebrated on Corvo Island:

Festas do Espírito Santo (Holy Ghost Festival)

Corvo celebrates the Festas do Espírito Santo in accordance with Azorean tradition. This religious celebration is a hallmark of the Azores and features processions, communal meals, and the distribution of traditional bread and soup. It’s a time for unity and generosity among the island’s residents.

Festa de São Pedro (Festival of Saint Pedro)

The Festival of Saint Pedro takes place on the last Sunday of June. This event includes a procession down the main artery of Vila do Corvo, showcasing religious devotion and local pride. Nighttime celebrations follow at the Largo do Outeiro (Outeiro Plaza), featuring music, dancing, and traditional Azorean cuisine.

Procession of the Holy Family

On the third Sunday of July, Corvo honors the Holy Family with a beautiful procession. This is followed by a traditional nightly festival, where locals and visitors come together to enjoy food, music, and a warm community atmosphere.

Festival of Our Lady of Miracles

The largest festival on Corvo is held on August 15th in honor of Our Lady of Miracles, the patron saint of the island.
