Winter (December – February)
Santa Maria’s winters are mild, with temperatures rarely dipping below 13°C (55°F). Rain is more frequent, and winds can pick up, yet the climate remains relatively comfortable compared to other European destinations.
Unique Microclimates
Santa Maria’s diverse geography creates a few microclimates across the island. The southern coastal areas, especially around Praia Formosa, are typically sunnier and warmer, while the higher inland regions can experience cooler temperatures, especially at night.
