What Is Driving in the Azores Like?
Roads are generally paved and distances are manageable, but drivers should be comfortable with roundabouts, narrow village streets, steep grades and winding mountain roads. Weather changes quickly at higher elevations. Parking is easiest outside historic centers, and automatic vehicles should be requested early because supply is limited.

Is a rental car included?
Yes where shown in the package itinerary. Multi-island trips normally use a separate rental car on each island rather than taking one vehicle between islands.
Are automatic cars available?
They can be requested but are limited and usually cost more than manual vehicles. Reserve early, especially for summer.
Are inter-island flights included?
The connections specifically listed in a multi-island itinerary are included. International airfare is separate unless added to your quotation.
Do I use the same rental car on multiple islands?
No. Multi-island self-drive packages normally arrange a separate rental car on each island where a car is included. Cars are returned before inter-island flights or passenger ferries and are not transported between islands.
Can the route be customized?
Often yes, subject to hotel, flight, ferry and rental-car availability. Different island combinations or extra nights can be quoted.
What driving documents will I need for the rental car?
The lead driver must meet the rental supplier’s license, identification, age and payment-card requirements. Requirements can vary by license and supplier, so confirm the documentation shown in your quotation and rental terms before travel.
