This 7-day, 6-night Terceira self-drive package combines one hotel base with the freedom to explore the island independently. Walk through UNESCO-listed Angra do Heroísmo, drive across the patchwork landscape of Serra do Cume, discover Terceira's volcanic interior and follow the coast to Praia da Vitória and Biscoitos.
Six hotel nights, daily breakfast and an automatic rental car are arranged in advance. The suggested itinerary balances history, volcanic scenery, villages and coastlines, while allowing you to change the route for weather, opening hours and your preferred pace.

This package suits independent travelers interested in history, volcanic geology, coastal scenery and relaxed island driving. A single hotel base minimizes packing and allows routes to change with the weather.
Drivers should be comfortable with roundabouts, narrow city streets, winding rural roads and parking outside historic centers. Some caves, pools and viewpoints have seasonal or weather-dependent access.
It is not the best match for travelers seeking a guided tour, a fixed daily schedule or a package with meals and attraction admissions included.
Day-by-day itinerary
These routes are suggestions rather than included tours. Adjust them for weather, visibility, road access, attraction opening times and your preferred pace.
Day 1 — Terceira Island — Arrival
Arrive at Lajes Airport, collect your automatic rental car and drive to your hotel, where you will stay for six nights. The remainder of the day is free to settle in or begin exploring nearby.
Day 2 — Angra do Heroísmo and Monte Brasil
Explore the UNESCO-listed center of Angra do Heroísmo on foot, including its squares, churches, harbor and colorful streets. Drive or walk onto Monte Brasil for views over the city and coast.
Parking is limited in the oldest streets, so consider leaving the car outside the historic core.
Day 3 — Praia da Vitória and eastern Terceira
Follow the coast toward São Sebastião and Praia da Vitória, then drive to Serra do Cume for panoramic views over Terceira's geometric fields and the Bay of Praia.
Allow time for coastal villages, viewpoints or the beach. Visibility at Serra do Cume can change quickly.
Day 4 — Terceira's volcanic interior
Drive into the island's interior for Algar do Carvão, Furnas do Enxofre and the surrounding volcanic landscape. Access, tours and opening hours vary, so check the current schedule before setting out.
Admission fees are not included. Wear shoes suitable for damp steps and uneven surfaces if entering volcanic caves.
Day 5 — Biscoitos and the north coast
Explore Terceira's north coast, with suggested stops at the Biscoitos lava pools and wine area. Continue through small communities and scenic coastal roads before returning to your hotel.
Ocean swimming depends on sea conditions, and lifeguard services may be seasonal.
Day 6 — Flexible island day
Use your final full day to revisit Angra, enjoy a coastal area, explore additional villages or reserve an optional activity. Check availability in advance for limited-capacity cave visits, boat trips and guided experiences.
Day 7 — Terceira Island — Departure
Check out, refuel and return the rental car at Lajes Airport. Allow enough time for the vehicle inspection and airport check-in.

Rental-car information
Automatic transmission is included, but the exact vehicle make and model are subject to availability. The lead driver must satisfy the supplier's license, age, identification and payment-card requirements.
Driving preparation
Bring the original driver's license, accepted identification and a payment card in the lead driver's name. Confirm whether an International Driving Permit is required. Expect roundabouts, narrow historic streets, winding roads and limited parking in central Angra.

Hotel Cruzeiro, a 4 star Hotel, is the latest hotel unit to open in Angra do Heroísmo, Unesco World Heritage city, located 5-minute walk from various points of interest, such as the Angra bay, Sé Church, Old Town Square (Praça Velha), Museum, Pico da Memória, among others.
Wi-Fi access is available in all areas of the hotel.
The hotel has a restaurant and a bar, where lunches, dinners and snacks are served and private parking.

Pousada Castelo de S. Sebastiao is a 8-minute walk from the beach. Set on top of a cliff, Pousada de Angra do Heroismo Castelo de S. Sebastiao is a modern hotel housed in a 16th century Fortress known as Saint Sebastian's Little Castle.
The Pousada offer rooms and one suite with modern décor and furnishing. The suite and some rooms include terraces with views over the sea and the Monte Brasil. All living units contain LCD TV and internet connection.
There are 2 swimming pools: one for adults and the other for children. Guests can enjoy the regional cuisine while taking in views of the sea and pool area.
The Pousada is located in the village centre of Angra do Heroísmo was classified World Heritage by UNESCO. Angra do Heroísmo also offers many activitiy options, such as marine hunting, diving, sport fishing and boat tours.

Early booking is advised. Availability of accommodations

If hotels named in itinerary are not available at time of booking, alternate similar
same rating properties will be confirmed, and subject to new quote.
Order of islands visited may need to be altered due to
flight schedule changes.
Quotations with different hotels have a non refundable deposit
of $50. Deposit will be credited towards final booking price.

price shown on Rates table. Departure cities are limited to those serviced
by SATA International (Azores Airlines).

Booking Conditions
A non-refundable, non-transferable deposit of $350 per
person per vacation is required to book and hold both land and air for you.
Final payment is due 50 days before departure.
Option to pay full price up front is available.
Cancellation Policy - Land Portion
$350 per person if canceled up to 50 days prior departure.
25% of total reservation if cancelled 49-39 days prior departure plus any other additional fee.
50% of total reservation if canceled 38-31 days prior departure plus any other additional fee.
No refunds if canceled less than 30 days prior departure.
Cancellation Policy - Airfare
Airfare cancellation terms and conditions will be provided to you before ticket is booked.
Refund Fees
A 3.9% credit card assessed fee will be subtracted from any refunded payment, including deposits refunded due to services requested not available for date of booking.

Yes. Automatic transmission is included. The exact make, model and class remain subject to supplier availability.
What rental-car insurance is included?
Basic collision damage waiver and theft protection are included, subject to the supplier's agreement, exclusions and excess. Optional reduced-excess coverage is not included unless quoted.
Are flights included?
No. Flights to and from Terceira are not included in the land-package price, but airfare can be requested.
Are fuel, parking and admissions included?
No. Fuel, parking, attraction admissions and other personal expenses are paid locally.
Do I need reservations for Algar do Carvão?
Access and visiting arrangements can change. Check current opening dates, hours and reservation requirements before travel.
Can I swim at Biscoitos?
The lava pools are popular for swimming, but access should always be based on posted warnings, sea conditions and seasonal safety services.
What documents are required for the car?
The lead driver generally needs an original valid license, accepted identification and a payment card in the lead driver's name. Confirm whether an International Driving Permit is required.
