Sao Miguel Economy
The primary economic activities of Sao Miguel are the production of dairy products, cereals, tea, fruits, and wine. Cattle raising and fishing are also important. The biggest source of revenue is the tourism sector. The greatest employer in Sao Miguel is the government with 55% percent of the labor force employed by this sector. The private sector is dominated by a handful of companies with SATA (airlines) and Grupo Bensaude (shipping, tourism) as the leaders.
